FIRE ALARMS
Bowden
Electrical provides a wide range of fire alarm systems depending on your
needs or legal requirement. We install all systems whether it is a mains
powered detector with battery back up, or a complete system around a communal
building or business premises. All our systems comply with BS5839 and
are designed to suit each individual application.
Systems that are available:
Battery powered heat and smoke detectors are generally installed
around the home when no other wiring can be installed. The main disadvantage
to this system is that when the battery is dead the detectors do not operate.
These units are no longer advised (They are better than nothing).
Mains powered smoke and heat detectors are the upgrade from battery
operated device. They have a constant power supply and a back up battery
so should the power be cut for any reason it will still offer protection.
These are generally used around the home and should be interlinked if
more than one is in use. They can be radio linked to reduce wiring for
a more aesthetic appearance.
Conventional fire alarm systems are used when a slightly higher
level of protection is required for example; in a shop with a flat above.
This system has a main power supply to a control panel which drops the
voltage to power the detectors and sounders giving a level of control
and isolation of sounders and detectors. It is required so that an incident
can be indicated to the resident and they can evacuate should anything
happen in the shop and vice versa. This system also has a battery backup
inside the control panel which if the power supply is cut the system will
continue to operate.
Two wire fire alarm systems are mostly used in communal hall ways
when the flats do not have to be incorporated on the system. This is because,
while it has all the qualities of the above system, it can also integrate
sounders and detectors in the same position reducing wiring, and the physical
presence of sounders and detectors.
Addressable fire alarm systems are used to cover a communal hallway
and flats. The advantage of system is that just by looking at the control
panel it will tell you EXACTLY where the fire is. If access has to be
gained by the emergency services then they know where the outbreak has
occurred. This system also has battery back up.
Wire free radio link system. This has a control panel as before,
which is supplied from the mains and has a battery back up. It works almost
the same as your wireless broadband at home. The panel has a small antenna
which transmits a radio signal to the sounders and detectors so that they
can tell it when a fire has occurred. The main advantage of this system
is that there is no need for ugly wiring or containment and all you see
are the control panel wiring.
This is a brief overview of applications and should not be taken literally.
Each system has its own specification, application and design and should
be treated individually. Should you require us to design your system for
free, install from your own specification or just commission an existing
system then please contact us by phone or e-mail.
